Where It Began

Kangleipak Online Shopping started in 2019 with a simple belief: the phanek deserves to be seen, worn and celebrated far beyond the borders of Manipur. What began as a small effort to bring authentic, hand-loomed Meitei textiles to people who could no longer find them nearby has grown into a home for genuine phanek — sold directly from the weaver, with no middlemen and no compromise on craft. The name itself carries that same intent. "Kangleipak" is the ancient name of Manipur, used long before the state came to be called by its present name. We chose it so that every order, every phanek, and every story we share carries a piece of that history forward. Every piece we sell is woven by skilled weavers based in Manipur, with border designs finished in both hand embroidery and machine embroidery depending on the style. We work exclusively with weavers based in and around Manipur, many of whom we have known for years. This means every phanek that reaches you has passed through the hands of the person who actually wove it — not a factory, not a reseller.It also means our weavers earn fairly for their skill, and that the mapan patterns you see on our site are the same ones passed down within their families, rather than mass-produced imitations.
